Me

I'm not your little lady love
A soft and white delicate dove
Don't put me in your dresses of silk
Doted in ribbons, frills, and bows
Expecting me to behave
Is like telling the tides
Not to swell and sink
Don't put me in your chains
Or your pretty gilded golden cages
I won't sing for you sweetly
Or dance to the sweet music
Echoing in your daydream
You won't break me
Or who I am

I'm made of cigarette smoke
I'm made of freshly tilled soil
I have blood of iron and whiskey
A concocted mix of liquor and spite
Pumping through my veins
Beneath beaten flesh
Hidden by leather and denim
My boots have trodden many miles
Lighter sparking conversations along the way
Never here nor there
Moving constantly
From bed to bed
Home to home
I'm a roaming wolf
Howling into the night for those who I have lost
Searching for a resting place
Here one day
Gone the next
I'm the girl with fists of steel
Always ready to swing
Don't get too close now
For it will do you no good
To cage a wild thing
Is quite the crime
And she shall wait
To swipe the key

I am a girl made of river water
Late nights
Stolen time
And inside jokes
I could be your best friend
Or your worst nightmare
Laughing in the face of a fight
Always loud
Heard by many
But it takes a lot to listen
To understand
Being raised by hellfire and brimstone
Chased from home
Hot coals singe my heels
Headin' for the hills

I'm pretty as the devil
Just about twice as clever
An angel lookin' woman
Blessed with a demon's soul
Always lookin' for trouble
I'll do you no good
To bring home to your mama
And expect approval
Remember I might be here today
But there is no tomorrow promised
I'm the girl made of the cool summer wind
Coming and going
All too quickly
I might love you with all my might
But if you really love
Keep me wild
